24.25 School Mass Updates

Dear SJCA Community,

We are writing to inform you of important updates to our Wednesday school Mass procedures, which begin at 8:15 AM. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend Mass, and we value the opportunity to worship together as a community each week.

To enhance student safety during travel to and from the church, we are implementing new protocols. These changes are based on last year’s safety threat assessment conducted with local law enforcement, as well as the demands of our growing student body. Given that this route takes us outside the secured campus environment, these adjustments are necessary.

Effective Wednesday, August 21st:

• Restricted Areas: The church steps, entryway, and Narthex (lobby area) will be reserved exclusively for SJCA students, faculty, and staff during entry and exit. Parents and visitors must use the Day Chapel door for entry and exit and are asked not to gather in the Narthex before or after Mass. This measure is essential for maintaining a secure and orderly environment and ensuring the accurate supervision of all students.
• Student Supervision: Students will remain with their class and under the direct supervision of teachers and staff at all times, including during travel between the school and the church. Staff members will be stationed in the Narthex to ensure it remains clear for student movement.
• Restroom Protocol: All students in grades K-9 must be escorted by a staff member if they need to use the restroom during Mass. We strongly encourage students to use the restroom before Mass to minimize disruptions.

We recognize that these changes may impact the small number of students accustomed to greeting parents or friends in the Narthex. We ask parents to discuss these updates with their children in advance to ensure a smooth transition. The added security and organization these measures provide are critical to the safety of our entire community.
