IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
1. If you currently receive a Step Up Scholarship, you should have received communication from Step Up for Students yesterday, May 4th that included the following message with the subject line:
Renew your student’s scholarship NOW for the 2023-24 school year!
It is very important that you complete the process as soon as possible to get in the que for your scholarship for the 23.24 school year. The House Bill #1 does have 2.2 billion dollars to award BUT the administrative aspect of processing many more applications will be challenging.
The best protection for your students scholarship is to complete the new process in the next day or two if at all possible. You will be transferring your information to the new EMA website (Education Management Assistant).
HELPFUL HINTS:
- Have your Step Up for Students username and password ready. You will need them in order to transfer your students to your new EMA account. If you have an incoming Kindergarten student, you will need to add the student instead of transferring them – you will use the same information from when you transferred your current scholarship student into the new EMA account.
- Have your child(ren)’s social security number ready, you will need to input these numbers during the transfer process.
- Have your proof of residency ready to upload – you can use your mortgage statement or driver’s license – there are other options you can use for this listed as well.
2. May Crowning is Friday, May 12, 2023 beginning at 9:30 in the Church.
We will begin with the Liturgy of the Word and the Blessing of our new statue.
Knights of Columbus will lead a procession carrying our new Blessed Mother statue from St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church to Flower Avenue, then to 10th street and into our courtyard where she will be placed in her permanent location where the crowning of our Blessed Mother will take place.
Parents and families, we welcome you to join us on this special day. We expect the Crowning ceremony to take less than one hour in total. It will be a special and beautiful celebration.
3. Increased Property Liability Insurance

- Due to the catastrophic property losses in Florida these past 5 years, the Diocese is no longer insurable for the first 25 million dollars of storm damage.
As such all entities must contribute an increased amount to begin self-insuring. The property liability insurance for SJCA was increased 160% to over $104,000.00.
While we are not increasing tuition this year, we are asking for help in raising the funds for this unfortunate yet unavoidable expense. We are grateful for the opportunity to raise funds through RAISE RIGHT. We are asking everyone to participate in this program with the hopes that tuition will not need to be increased to cover our insurance bill.
4. Raise Right
We made the decision to not increase tuition this year and work as a community to help raise the funds to supplement the cost by making your everyday purchases through eGift Cards in the Raise Right app.
As a school, we have begun using the program for our recurring Home Depot, Lowes, Sams, and Amazon payments. This past weekend we purchased computers from Best Buy and the school automatically was reimbursed 4% of the sale.
HELPFUL HINTS:
There are eGift Cards and physical cards. The eGift cards can be purchased and kept in your ‘wallet’ in the app. At checkout you can pull it up and scan it for payment. They can also be screen shot and texted to a family member.
Linking a credit card involves a 2.6% surcharge while linking your bank account directly is only .29 per purchase (no matter how many cards are in your shopping cart). This is a lot less expensive than a credit card. Businesses or homes that make large monthly purchases at particular stores really have the potential to assist our fundraising efforts and desire to maintain our current tuition costs for the next year. PLEASE prayerfully consider the investment into learning this system and as a community we can close the gap for the cost to educate as well as pay our insurance bill. I really appreciate your time and willingness to join this effort.
