Upcoming Events and Volunteer Opportunities

An invitation for our Parent Volunteers ~

“The existence of each individual is deeply tied to that of others: life is not simply time that passes; life is a time for interactions.” (Pope Francis, Brothers and Sisters to Us [Fratelli Tutti], no. 66). St. John Catholic Academy is a school as well as a community of faith. The events we have throughout the year are only possible with the generous support of parent volunteers.  After carefully considering many parents’ feedback, we have eliminated monthly PTO meetings (due to the low attendance and the feedback that having a ‘signup genius’ for where to help was more efficient and respected parents’ time more).  We currently have a number of upcoming events that need your support. PLEASE take some time to review these upcoming events and volunteer when you are able.  If we all do a portion of each event, the burden will be ‘light’ for everyone.  The Mardis Gras Parade, Chili Cook Off, Candy Grams, and Sip and Support (our largest fundraiser to close the gap between tuition and the cost to educate) are coming soon.  We are so grateful for the countless hours our parents donate and look forward to welcoming all of our families throughout the year.

Extreme Sports for St. John’s Catholic Academy

Spring Basketball 2024

Grades K -2nd

3rd – 5th

Each Grade level team will need 2 coaches for each sport.

TWO VOLUNTEER PARENT COACHES ARE REQUIRED FOR EACH GRADE LEVEL:

  1. K – 2

  2. 3 – 5

NOTE: THE DEADLINE TO VOLUNTEER IS FRIDAY FEBRUARY 17 by 2:30 pm.

We are hopeful that there will be parents willing to volunteer so the students may have this sports opportunity. Thank you for your consideration!  Only the grade level teams that have two volunteer coaches will be allowed to play for the basketball season. Mrs. Mahoney has generously agreed to coordinate the infrastructure of basketball but she is not available to coach or substitute coach.

What exactly am I volunteering for??

Necessary Steps:

  1. Potential volunteers must complete your fingerprints and paperwork that is necessary by the Diocese in the front office.  Steps for Parent Volunteers at SJCA

  2. You will need to pick up the teams in the quad at 3:05 and walk across to the field and set up practice fields as well.

  3. When practice ends you will need to make sure all each student is united with their parents and approved aftercare students with a pink tag will need to be checked in with the aftercare teacher. I will provide a list of approved students who may go to aftercare.

  4. I will give you the schedule and an email list of all parents for you to keep contact with them during the season.

  5. Coaches will decide how long you would like to have practice and on what days in coordination with the front office. Please email office@sjseagles.org with your proposed practice schedule.

  6. Games are typically played on Tuesday or Thursday and those are decided by the host school.

  7. On game days, coaches must make sure each athlete is released to his/her parents and must be the last one to leave.

  8. Coaches can decide to have an after season party if you would like to as well.

You may email Maite.mahoney@sjseagles.org with any questions or concerns.

Thank you for volunteering and looking forward to hearing from you. Please remember the deadline to respond is Friday February 17th at 2:30 pm.

The season will start March 4, 2024 and continue until May 6th.

Mrs. Maite Mahoney
