Summer Band Camp 2018

You are invited to be part of the St. John Eagles Band! Your child does not have to have any previous music instruction or experience to join band! All 4th-8th grade students are welcome! Links to the registration forms can be found at the end of this article.

The Only Requirements…

  • Band students will be expected to either buy or rent an instrument with a music book (in some cases, school instruments may be provided for free or provided for a reduced rental rate)
  • Middle School Band students are expected to attend at least 1 band elective a week
  • All Band students are expected to attend most afternoon practices (Mondays and Wednesdays, 3pm-4pm; some voluntary Clinics on Fridays)
  • No other experience is necessary… just a willing, positive, and motivated attitude!

** NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION, July 9th, 7pm in the Performing Arts Room (music room) **
All new members are requested to join us on Monday, July 9th at 6:30pm in the music rooom for our New Member Orientation. A representative from Playground Music will be here with band instruments for your child to try out and choose from. We’ll help your student select just the right instrument! Purchase and rental information will be made available.
Options for Summer Band Camp:

  1. Daily option: Choose which days fit your family’s summer schedule! ($25 per day, 10am-2pm)
  2. Weekly options:
    • July 16, 17, 18 ($60 for all 3 days, 10am-2pm)
    • July 23, 24, 25 ($60 for all 3 days, 10am-2pm)
    • July 16-18 & 23-25 ($100 for all 6 days! 10am-2pm)

What does Summer Band camp include?

  • Bottled water, popsicles, and snacks will be provided. Students just need to bring their own packed lunch daily).
  • Marching and music instruction (individual and small group)
  • Team-building activities and FUN!
  • Get a jump on this year’s Marching Band Music (Anthem, Veterans, Christmas, Stand…)
  • Try out for a Leadership Position in the Band!
WHO SHOULD COME?

  • All new and returning band members are highly encouraged to attend, as we will begin preparing for our first two big performances of the year… the Veterans Day and Christmas Parades!

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

  • Besides having FUN, we will spend the morning portion of the camp outside in marching practice and Percussion will be working with our Drum Instructor to learn the cadence for the parades.
  • We will learn / practice marching fundamentals and parade formation.
  • The afternoons will be spent in individual and sectional playing time with Leadership and with Mrs. Langford.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR AND BRING?

  • Students need to come prepared to spend time outside and should dress accordingly
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a water cooler / bottle is highly recommended
  • Students should wear good marching shoes with socks
  • Instruments should be in good working order (extra reeds- min. 3, valve oil, etc.)
  • Students will be provided a folder for music, but if they would like to use their own, they should bring it to camp. We will be receiving our first set of music, along with scales, warm ups, and more!
  • Please have your student’s name on their instrument case and music folder
  • Students should bring their own packed lunch. (Lunch will be 11:30-12:00 each day)
  • We will also have at least two 20-minute popsicle / water / bathroom breaks in the morning and at least two 10-minute breaks in the afternoon (water, snacks, and popsicles provided!)
  • Leadership will be selected during Camp, so any member planning to be on Leadership should plan to attend.
For students who need supervision before 10am or after 2pm, we have teamed up with Camp Eagle Eye! Half-day options are available to Band Camp students for only $50 a week for these weeks:

  • July 16-20: School House Rock (sing, dance, and act)
  • July 23-27: Eagle Ninja Warrior (athletic skills)
